Let's Go Back to the Bible

The Giver of good things

Every dedicated father loves his children dearly and will seek to do and to give those things that will benefit his children the most. Jesus talked about how a loving father would never give his child a stone if the child asked for bread, or give him a serpent if he asked for a fish. Jesus then made His point, “If you then, being evil, know how to give good gifts to your children, how much more will your Father who is in heaven give good things to those who ask Him” (Matt. 7:7-11).

Our Father is not just a Giver of things, but He is the Giver of “good things.” Put this in the context: “Ask, and it will be given to you…For everyone who asks receives…Your Father [will] give good things to those who ask Him.”

The question that must be asked is, “Do you ask? Do you ask the Father for His good things?” “Every good gift and every perfect gift is from above, and comes down from the Father” (Jas. 1:17). How much do we believe that? Our Father wants to give us His good things!
