Let's Go Back to the Bible

“It ain’t mine! It’s borrowed!”

Have you ever borrowed someone’s car? Did you find that you drove that car differently than you drove your own car? What if it was a really nice car–top of the line, all the bells and whistles, and in pristine condition? Would you treat it with extra care? Would you take care of it exactly as the owner would like? Or, do you think you’d fill the gas tank with sand, let your dog do his business in the back seat, and paint graffiti all over the exterior?

Most of us are extra careful when using something that does not belong to us, and we are mindful that it needs to be returned to the owner in the exact condition as it was received, if not better. So, does that same mindset apply to our bodies? Everything that we have is from God (Jas. 1:17), including our very bodies (1 Cor. 6:20). They do not belong to us (1 Cor. 6:19).

So, what I do in my body and to my body and with my body must first pass every borrower’s test, “Is this what the owner would want me to do?” Will this “glorify God”?
