Let's Go Back to the Bible

“I can be a missionary and save the souls of men!”

There is a children’s song that goes like this: “I can go to South Dakota, I can go to Timbuktu. I can climb the highest mountain, I can cross the ocean blue. I can go and teach the Indian, I can teach the Chinese too, And save the souls of men! I can be a missionary! I can be a missionary! I can be a missionary! And save the souls of men!”

Aren’t children’s songs nice? They’re good…for the kids! They sing “Jesus loves me.” That’s a good song…for kids. They sing “Oh, be careful little eyes what you see.” That’s a good song…for kids. But those are children’s songs…just for the children, right? When we get older, those songs aren’t for us anymore, right? WRONG! Does Jesus love me, and should I sing about it? YES! Do I need to be careful with my eyes, ears, hands, etc.? YES!

What about being a missionary? Is that just a children’s song, too? Or, does that apply to us who are “older,” too? Guess what? EVERY Christian is a missionary, commissioned by Jesus to “go into all the world and preach the gospel to every creature” (Mark 16:15)!
