Let's Go Back to the Bible

One job but failed

Perhaps you have seen the memes that poke fun, “They had one job…but failed.” There’s the picture of a coffee cup with the handle on the inside of the cup. There’s the Fire Zone painted on the blacktop in front of a supermarket that is spelled “FRIE.” There’s the “Back to School” display at a big-box store with racks full of chef’s knives. They had one job. And failed.

While these memes amuse and make you laugh, it also ought to make us wonder–is there any one job that I have in which I have failed? Parents, you have one job: “Bring them up in the training and admonition of the Lord” (Eph. 6:4). How are you doing with that job? Your kids might be growing into gifted athletes, great scholars and social magnets, but are they “grow[ing] up in all aspects into Him who is the head, even Christ” (Eph. 4:15)?

Parents, you have one job, and it’s not a laughing matter. If the Lord is not building your house, your labor is in vain (Psa. 127:1)! Don’t fail! Ask the Lord to build your home!
