Let's Go Back to the Bible

God made clothes for them

Have you ever looked at a young girl (or even some boys, for that matter) and wondered, “How could her mother or father let her out of the house wearing that?”  The reality is that not only did that mother or father let her out of the house wearing some piece of clothing deemed inappropriate or immodest, but that mother or father most likely also paid for it at the store.

Here’s something to think about if you have any influence over the dress of young girls (or, yes, even boys).  The pictures we usually see drawn of Adam and Eve show them wearing just a few leaves (of course, those fig-leaf garments could have been much more modest than artist’s imaginations may depict).  But before the Lord drove them from the garden, he “made tunics of skin, and clothed them” (Gen. 3:21).  God made clothes (tunics, to be more specific) for Adam and Eve out of animal skins.  How modest do you think God’s fashion line was?

Next time you shop for clothing, ask yourself, “Would God have made that?  Would He want me to wear that?”  Remember, God’s clothes were to cover their nakedness, not reveal it!
