Let's Go Back to the Bible

Clothed with humility

Do you have some clothes that…well…just don’t fit like they once did? Sometimes clothes just don’t fit right anymore. Have you ever borrowed someone else’s shoes and realized how very different feet are? Sometimes certain clothes fit other people better than they fit us.

There is a piece of “clothing” that God tells every Christian, with urgency, to put on. It is a “one-size-fits-all” garment, but it requires a conscious effort to put it on and to keep it on.

The Lord instructs us, “All of you, clothe yourselves with humility toward one another” (1 Pet. 5:5). The word comes from the Greek word for “knot,” and came to refer to a slave who tied on an apron. When others look at you, do they see someone who has tied on a spirit of humility and is ready to serve the needs of others? Or do they see someone who is all wrapped up in a silk blanket of self and pride? When you get up every morning, don’t get out of bed and for sure don’t leave the house without clothing yourself…with humility! God wants it to fit you!
