Let's Go Back to the Bible

A word we don’t hear very often

While listening to the radio the other day, an advertisement came on that used a word that we don’t hear very often down in South Florida. It just doesn’t really fit in around here. Everyone understands its meaning and what’s involved, but  because of our environment, it is rarely heard. The word is “autumn.” We just don’t do autumn in South Florida! [smile]

That got me to thinking about other words that we don’t hear anymore–Biblical words that everyone understands, but ones that many prefer not to hear. Words like “commandment,” “submission,” “obedience,” “sin,” “hell,” “damnation,” “judgment.” These words (and others like them) have been determined in some circles as “offensive” or “harsh,” and therefore are rarely heard in some places. But, is it really up to us to determine which Bible words are palatable and which are not? Is it up to us to “soften” Biblical truth, so that it might be more appealing?

We have a responsibility to speak the truth (in the words God uses) in Christian love!
